Il Divo have single-handedly created a musical genre all their own, utilizing a strange but beautiful blend of classic faux-Opera and cutting-edge Pop. Their diverse, natural talent is tempered by an array of exceptional voices, Continental European looks, and cultural variability unparalleled in the realm of modern music. The group was formed after a two-year quest to find the perfect combination of vocals and musical mastery, culminating in the formation of this bejeweled foursome. It is no wonder that this cosmopolitan band, adored and desired by legions of female admirers for their masculine appeal as much as the magic of their unique sound, is regarded as a successful experiment by mastermind, merciless Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell. Their debut album was released in April 2005, featuring a dazzling and unexpected mixture of different influences, including covers of songs from such unlikely bedfellows as Frank Sinatra and Toni Braxton. The quartet have made music in three languages - English, Italian, and Spanish, and are no "smoke-and-mirrors" outfit; American tenor David Miller has worked as as professional opera singer, and graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, a distinguished institution to those in the know in the world of Opera. Swiss-born tenor Urs Toni Buhler attended Amsterdam Conservatory and received private training by renowned tenors elsewhere in Europe. Carlos Marin, born in Germany of Spanish ancestry, showcased his deep voice as 'primo baritono' in numerous European operas. Sebastien Izambard provides a Pop sound for the band, and is the only self-taught member in this musically-educated four, but who himself has produced and written songs in France. The romantic roadshow will continue in April 2007, with a tour across Canada, beginning in Toronto April 9, and ending in Vancouver April 24. The band will entertain Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. Tickets are available at ticketliquidator.com today, for all Il Divo's Canadian shows. Enjoy.
